Frederick County is located less than an hour from Washington, DC, Baltimore, Antietam, Gettysburg and Harpers Ferry. Frederick County is home to 90 national, state, historical and local parks offering plentiful activities like swimming, boating, camping and more. Sites like the C&O Canal National Historical Park, South Mountain State Battlefield Park and Monocacy National Battlefield transport visiting residents into some of the region’s most important past events and significant turning points, especially during the Civil War.

Arts and theater buffs will find Frederick County, and its namesake city in particular, to be a wonderful place to live. Downtown Frederick is designated an Arts and Entertainment District with its handful of historic and modern venues alike. The Frederick Arts Council works to ensure that performance arts are never lacking in the county for people of all ages.

The Frederick County Public School system is nationally recognized for its high achievements, receiving for multiple years the U.S. Department of Education’s prestigious Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence award. Hood College, Frederick Community College, Johns Hopkins University and Mount Saint Mary’s University are just scratching the surface of higher education options in the region.

And while many residents of Frederick will commute into Baltimore for work, the county itself boasts a diverse range of employment options. According to the Frederick County Business Development and Retention Division, some of the major employers in the area include Fort Detrick Campus, Frederick County Board of Education, Frederick Memorial Healthcare System, Ledios Biomedical Research, Bechtel Power and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.
